April Update

BIG things are happening at Virtual Elementary School!

Our sister company, Bayfield Design, has been hard at work developing an expansive line-up of elementary courses for VES. Set to roll out over the next six months, our new course offerings will span six different subject areas across Grades 1 to 8. VES students will soon be able to enjoy courses in language, science and technology, social studies, history and geography, French, and health and physical education, in addition to our current suite of mathematics courses. All VES courses will include a combination of technology-based and offline activities, as well as intriguing stories, characters, videos, and interactive games to get your child excited about learning!

The core subjects of language, mathematics, and science and technology will be available for all elementary grade levels. Our language program will focus primarily on communication by helping students develop a strong foundation in the areas of reading, writing, listening, speaking, viewing, and representing. The science courses are designed to encourage students to practice critical thinking and problem-solving skills by participating in observation activities and experiments. Currently available in its entirety, our math suite requires students to relate and apply mathematical concepts to everyday life.

Here is a sample of a filmed video from the upcoming Grade 7 science course.

Social studies courses are set to be released for Grades 1 through 6, but the program will shift gears to incorporate history and geography for students in Grades 7 and 8. The overall goal of these particular courses is to inspire children to become responsible, informed citizens by giving them the opportunity to investigate key issues and events in society.

For Grades 4 to 8, VES will be offering French and health and physical education. In the French courses, students will gain reading, writing, and speaking skills in order to communicate in French in real-world settings. The health and physical education program has been created with the purpose of teaching students about the importance of maintaining their own physical and mental well-being.

Phew! It’s a lot to take in, right? You’ll have over 30 new Ontario curriculum-based course content right at your fingertips. The best part? Your child will always be guaranteed a spot in any of our courses at Virtual Elementary School, whether you choose the independent or facilitated pathway. We’re delighted to be able to expand our school to meet the recent demand for quality, online education at the elementary level.
