Inspiring Curiosity: Grades 4 and 5 Science Launch

“When will you have more course options available?” We get this question a lot from parents. In response, we’ve made it our mission to provide a full course offering so that learners of all grade levels can benefit from a flexible home education. Over the next year, we will be rolling out the VES e-Suite, a comprehensive catalogue of online courses to support parents and learners on their education journey. Next up are Grades 4 and 5 Science.

Like their companion e-Suite courses, Science 4 and 5 are rich with multimedia to engage and delight learners, and the courses are designed with differentiation and built-in supports to suit all learning preferences. We are thrilled about the upcoming release of these two courses and would love to share some highlights!

Grade 4 Science

Here is a sample of a filmed video from the Grade 4 Science course.

In Grade 4 Science, we explore communities and habitats, gears and pulleys, light and sound, and rocks and minerals—all through the lens of human experience. We discuss how pollution is created, how gears and pulleys are used in the real world, how humans use light and sound, and how rocks and minerals are formed and used. Learners will read storybooks, watch videos, complete interactives, and create their own off-screen mechanical engineering, light, and sound devices.

Grade 5 Science

Here is a sample of an animated video from the Grade 5 Science course.

In Grade 5 Science, we build on the STEM processes developed in Grade 4 and explore human organ systems, forces acting on structures and mechanisms, properties of changes in matter, and the conservation of energy and resources. Learners will build a model explaining organs and functions in the human body, study the effects of forces on objects, humans, and structures, explore chemical and physical changes, and dive into how energy is produced and used.

Course Design

Applying STEM processes to investigate and reflect on the relationship between humans’ impact on the planet and the planet’s impact on human lives was the driving force behind our course design. We aim to inspire curiosity. If you decide to register, please let us know how we did!

Grades 4 and 5 Science will be available on December 17, 2020.

We offer a bursary program to assist with the cost of tuition. Click the link below to learn more about the Virtual Elementary School Bursary Program and how to apply.
